: Complaints and Disputes
The section offers information about your alternatives if you are having a problem with your lawyer. Lawyers are issued licenses to practice on a state-by-state basis. Each state , in turn, has a different system of rules that govern a lawyer's conduct and how lawyers are disciplined. Many of the resources in this section were prepared by state or local bar associations for legal consumers. Some of the resources tell you how to file a complaint against a lawyer. Other publications provide tips on how to avoid formal disciplinary actions through mediation or direct discussions with your lawyer. In some instances, simple contact information is offered, while other publications explain the applicable disciplinary procedures.
